Blood Drive Being Held In Memory Of HV Resident
Nicholas Modico of Putnam Valley was diagnosed with a rare pediatric bone cancer called Ewing's Sarcoma in 2012 and died two years later.
SHRUB OAK, NY — A blood drive will be held in Shrub Oak in memory of a Hudson Valley resident who died of bone cancer in 2014.
The New York Blood Center will be hosting the drive in memory of Nicholas Modico of Putnam Valley from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
He was diagnosed with a rare pediatric bone cancer called Ewing’s Sarcoma in 2012. He died in March 2014 three weeks after his 23rd birthday.

Modico was a graduate of Kenney Catholic High School in Somers and Boston College.
The blood drive will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 1377 E. Main St. in Shrub Oak.

Organizers of the drive said blood donations gave Modico the opportunity to spend additional time with his family and friends.
A month before he died, he asked his parents to continue helping people, because he said that is what he always tried to do.
People can donate blood every 56 days, and platelet donors can give twice a month. To view current eligibility guidelines, go to this website or call 800-688-0900.
