Bronx Pair Accused Of Stealing From Dick's Sporting Goods

Police said that one of them had a device that is used to remove security tags placed on merchandise.

YORKTOWN, NY — Two New York City residents were accused of stealing merchandise from a sporting goods store.

The Yorktown Police Department said Mary Alice Fairwell, 41, and Henry Hampton Cain, 48, both of the Bronx, were arrested Monday and charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor. Additionally, Fairwell was charged with possession of burglars tools and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, misdemeanors.

Police said, around 5:30 p.m. Monday, officers responded to Dick’s Sporting Goods on Lee Boulevard for a report of a larceny in progress with the suspects fleeing in a gray Audi sedan.

An officer located a car matching the description on the Taconic State Parkway in the area of Route 202.

After a traffic stop, police said Fairwell and Cain were identified and had stolen merchandise from the sporting goods store by hiding the items in a bag and then passing all points of sale without attempting to pay for them.

Police also said that one of the pair had a security tag detach device that is used to remove the tags.

Fairwell and Cain were taken to police headquarters for arrest processing and issued appearance tickets for the charges.

They were released on their own recognizance to appear in the Yorktown Justice Court Nov. 9.
