4 Things in Yorktown, Somers You Might Want to Check Out This Weekend

'Celebrate Somers Day' for Town's 225th Birthday

When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: The town of Somers is celebrating its 225th birthday this year. To commemorate the milestone, members of the Somers Chamber of Commerce are inviting residents to celebrate at the inaugural 'Celebrate Somers Day' The day will kick off with a dedication ceremony of a 19th century water trough at Bailey Park. Family-friendly activities that day will include face painting, food from local restaurants and delicatessens, free bouncy house, popcorn, cotton candy, a stilt walker, clown, DJ and more. Somers Library Foundation 5K Trail Race and 1-Mile Family Fun Run

When/Where: Sunday, Sept. 29 at 9 a.m. at Reis Park in Somers
Cost: Trail Race registration fee is $20 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under; and the Fun Run registration fee is $15 per person or $40 per family.

Why Go:
The Somers Library Foundation will hold a 5K Trail Race and 1-Mile Family Fun Run. Proceeds of the event will be used to enhance the Somers Library. The race course will cover cross country trails and fields located throughout Reis Park, Reis Homestead, Van Tassel Memorial Park, Primrose Elementary School and Somers High School. Refreshments will be provided in
the Park. Participants can register on-line at www.somerslibraryfoundation.org.

Yorktown: Mother's Comfort Project Westchester

When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. at Fabric Mart, 2019 Crompond Rd., Yorktown Heights

Cost:
Free

Why Go:
Mother’s Comfort Project Westchester is a combined effort of founding organization, Rational Animal, www.rationalanimal.org, and Dancing for Animals, www.dancingforanimals.org. This project brings volunteers together for sewing sessions to create comfortable beds for shelter animals, as well as catnip toys for the cats. Yorktown Rotary Club to Host 3rd Annual 'The Best & The Wurst' Craft Beer Festival

When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 28 in Yorktown Heights at the Firemen's Field
