Circolo da Vinci Scholarships, Lakeland Grad Makes Olympics Team, 'Ask Astorino'

Here are five things you need to know today, June 13.

"They were all to me exceptionally bright," said Yorktown resident Tony Grasso, who presented the students with the scholarships. "If we had enough money we'd give scholarships to everyone."

There were 32 students who applied for the scholarships, but 10 students were selected to received them.

2. Lakeland's Melissa Gonzalez Named to US Olympic Field Hockey team

Congratulations to Melissa Gonzalez (Lakeland '07) who will be playing in the 2012 London Olympics on the USA Field Hockey Team!

The U.S. will begin their final preparation for the London Games on Monday, June 18, with the start of a four game test series against Argentina in Virginia. The 16-women nominated to the Olympic Team plus two replacement athletes will compete on the tour that stops at the University of Virginia, Old Dominion University and the National Training Center.

3. SEPTA Senior Achievement Awards 

The SEPTA graduating senior achievement awards will be given out tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Yorktown High School Library.

4. St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Found Dog

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church found a small white dog in Mohegan Lake. to see if this is a dog you know and help return it to its owners.

5. 'Ask Astorino' in North Salem Wednesday

Got a question for your county executive? As part of an ongoing effort to reach out to Westchester residents and listen to what is on their minds, County Executive Robert P. Astorino is  at the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library, 276 Titicus Road, North Salem. The meeting will be moderated by North Salem Town Supervisor Warren Lucas. Two weeks ago, the county executive hosted his fourth town hall by telephone. The “tele” town hall attracted almost 21,000 listeners and drew participants via social media.
