CT Woman Assaults Fellow Soccer Player In Yorktown Sports Complex: PD

She is accused of punching the victim in the mouth with a closed fist causing injury, according to Yorktown police.

YORKTOWN, NY — When a "friendly" soccer match turned heated, a player became violent, according to police.

Yorktown police say that a 29-year-old resident of Danbury, CT was charged with misdemeanor third-degree assault for an incident that took place during a soccer game.

On March 13, around 7:32 p.m., Yorktown police officers responded to a report of an altercation that had taken place inside of East Coast Sports & Fitness.

After an investigation, police allege that Laura Jara Rivera had an argument with another player during a soccer game, during which Rivera punched the victim in the mouth with a closed fist causing injury.

Rivera was arrested and taken to police headquarters for processing.

She was arraigned by the Honorable Judge Cohen-Pierson and a temporary order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.

Rivera was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in the Yorktown Justice Court on April 3.
