Culvert Replacement Means No Thru Traffic On Old Crompond Road
The highway superintendent says it will take about six months before the road can be completely reopened.

YORKTOWN, NY — Reconstruction on a culvert on Old Crompond Road will mean that through traffic on the road will be suspended for a minimum of six months.
Superintendent of Highways David D. Paganelli said the culvert located at 3483 Old Crompond behind McDonald’s will be closed for a minimum of six months, with no through traffic.
He said the detours in both directions at Pinegrove Court and Hunterbrook Road both entail traveling on White Hill Road, which is now posted with a speed limit of 10 mph because of narrow lanes and dangerous curves.

Paganelli said that, from personal experience, staying on Route 202 east or west takes exactly half the amount of time on either detour and is much safer.
He said the town is putting out a request for proposals for engineering services to prepare documents for going out to bid for replacement. The town is also coordinating with Con Edison for leak monitoring because there is an 8-inch high-pressure gas main strapped to the culvert.

There is also coordination with the state Department of Transportation and the Department of Environmental Conservation.
Paganelli said an optimistic timeline would be as follows:
- Engineering: one to two months
- Going out to bid: one month
- Awarding bid: two weeks
- Starting construction: one month, assuming all materials are readily available
- Construction: one to two months
