Cupcake Wars in Somers, Southbound Taconic Lane Closures, Justice for Adovasio's Family

Here are five things you need to know today, Oct. 17.

1. Cupcake Wars in Somers

You’ve seen the show, now you can watch Somers teachers compete to win the title of Cupcake Masters. At the Somers Education Foundation’s first annual Cupcake Wars teachers will compete against the clock and each other to create the most delicious and impressive cupcake display. 

It will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Somers High School. Concessions, including cupcakes, will be sold. Tickets are $5 each or max $15 per family. Click here for more details.

2. Southbound Lanes on Taconic to Close for Paving

The Department of Transportation will be closing southbound Taconic State Parkway lanes, between Underhill Avenue and Routes 100/133, from Wednesday, Oct. 17 through Friday, Oct. 26 for paving and striping activities.

Weather permitting, lane closures will occur on weekdays as follows:

  • Single lane closure: 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
  • Two lane closure: 10:30 a.m. until 6 p.m.

3. Justice for Tina Adovasio's Family

A Bronx jury on Monday found former NYPD officer Eddy Coello guilty of murdering his estranged wife and dumping her body in a heavily wooded area off the Taconic State Parkway in Yorktown last year. Read more about it here.

4. Earring Making Workshop

Make earrings for yourself and for a Battered Women's Shelter. Optional: Bring any old bead jewelry that you can recycle into earrings. If you have any jewelry making tools, bring them along too. The program islimited to 30 participants. Please register for this program by calling (914) 245-5262.

5. Public Hearing on Costco
