Dos And Don'ts For 2022 Santa Day Candy Cane Run In Yorktown Heights
Organizers said people should check the 2022 YHFD Santa Day routes because some of the times and locations have changed from past years.
YORKTOWN, NY — With the annual Yorktown Heights Engine Co. No. 1 2022 Santa Day Candy Cane Run coming up on Sunday, the volunteered wanted to remind everyone about a few “dos and don’ts” that will make things go smoother.
Please don’t do the following:
- Don’t run out into the street to meet the moving fire apparatus, wait until you hear the apparatus parking brake engage, and Santa exits the fire truck. This is for your safety.
- Don’t stand in your driveway, or in your doorway, and expect Santa and our firefighters to stop at your house. (Unless your house is on fire, we’re not stopping.) Unexpected stops cause delays that may lead to less time that other families get to spend with Santa. Please be considerate of others.
- Don’t call the firehouse or send us a message on social media and ask us to turn around because you missed Santa. We do our best to accommodate everyone. If you missed Santa, look at the schedule and drive to another stop.
Please do the following:

- Check all three of our routes for your street/area and note that new stops have been added this year. (If you do not see your street listed, you may live in another Fire District that carries a Yorktown Heights address.)
- Check that you are looking at the 2022 YHFD Santa Day routes. Some of the times and locations have changed from previous years. (We have marked the images with 2022 routes so they can be shared.)
- Follow our Facebook and Instagram page for live updates on Santa’s whereabouts
- Understand that all times are approximate and that the firefighters and fire trucks that are bringing Santa around town are still in service and will answer any emergency calls as they are received, which may affect route times. Santa has been known to help out during fires on previous days which effects times for hours, possibly even rescheduling.
- Be at your specified route location about five minutes or more before Santa is scheduled to arrive.
- Have your cameras ready to take any pictures you’d like with Santa and your Yorktown Heights Volunteer Firefighters. Everyone loves a good holiday picture.
- Know that you can bring your dog to your route location (if it’s safe and practical to do so). Santa loves his four-legged friends and might even have a treat or two for them being such a “good boy” this year.
- Bring enough hot chocolate to share with your neighbors
- Be merry and have a great time!
