Fire Caused By Portable Generator Destroys Hudson Valley Home
Two Arlington residents were able to get out of their home, but they received minor burns.
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — Two Arlington residents received minor burns in a fire Monday, but their home was destroyed.
Chief William A. Steenbergh of the Arlington Fire District said, shortly before 9 a.m. Monday, firefighters were sent to 15 Edwin Rd. for a reported structure fire.
When the first engine arrived, fire was visible in the attached two-car garage and fire was extending into the main portions of the house.

A second alarm was called for, bringing additional Arlington units to the scene, along with aid from city of Poughkeepsie firefighters and Mobile Life Support EMS.
The fire was under control in about 20 minutes, and took about another hour to complete extinguish it.

Two residents of the home were able to get out with assistance of the first arriving firefighters. They were taken to a local hospital for evaluation of minor injuries.
The fire was investigated by the Arlington Fire District Fire Investigation Division and was determined to be accidental.
A portable emergency generator in the garage was the cause of the fire, officials said.
Two cars in the garage were destroyed and the home is not habitable, according to fire officials.
Steenbergh said the two residents of the home are being assisted by family members.
All units were back in service by 11:35 a.m.
