1. Members of the Yorktown town board meet today for their work session at 7 p.m. at Town Hall. Items on the agenda are approving the remaining auction bids; discussing a space request and plans for 2011 for the Teen Center; request for additional funds for the Patriot Garden; possible revisions to the Sept. 28 draft of the Tree Law; review of the draft of skate law; reviewing of the draft for a dog law; whether to review and vote on minutes, back taxes; court staffing; capital budget; discussions with IBM regarding a new PILOT Agreement.
2. Learn infant CPR (0-12 months) in one hour with Safe Baby. Safe Baby teaches participants, through hands-on practice, the skills to save a life. The course is ideal for grandparents, expecting parents, or anyone who would like to learn CPR but does not require certification. The course is offered today from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the American Red Cross, 106 N Broadway in White Plains. You can register online by visiting www.westchestercounty.redcross.org.

3. Journaling 101 for women living cancer will be held today from 10:30 a.m.-noon. It's an ongoing monthly activity-based workshop led by Robin Perlmutter, a cancer survivor and clinical director at Support Connection. The workshop is based on the work of Kathleen Adams, a pioneer in the field of journal therapy. Journaling as a tool for healing, and there are numerous ways that show that creating and keeping a journal can help a person cope, draw strength, clarity and wisdom from their experience. Techniques will be presented to encourage participants to use the written word, language and art such as photographs and creative collage to give form to their journey with cancer. 4. It's Financial Aid night at Yorktown High School. Heather McDonnell, Vice President of financial aid at Sarah Lawrence College, will answers questions on what you need to do now to prepare your student, grades 9-12, for college. The discussion starts at 7 p.m. at the high school.

5. The volleyball teams at Walter Panas and Lakeland High Schools will hold a joint game and fundraiser for cancer research. "Volley For the Cure" will be held at Walter Panas High School with the JV game at 4:30 p.m. and varsity game at 6:00 p.m. All of the proceeds are going to the Sideout Foundation for breast cancer research (The suggested donation at the door is $2 for students and children and $5 for adults.) There will be a DJ and students from each school competing between games in relay races and contests. The teams will also be selling Pink Volley For the Cure t-shirts for $10. There will also be a silent auction. Look for our sports coverage tomorrow.
