Investigators Link Brooklyn Man To Theft Of $23K Check From The Heritage Hills Society: Police

The 38-year-old stole the check from the Somers luxury senior living community, before depositing it into his own account, cops say.

SOMERS, NY — An investigation into the theft of a check worth thousands of dollars from a luxury senior community, led to a Brooklyn man, according to police.

New York State Police say that the Somers Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and uniform members arrested a Brooklyn man, after an investigation into a grand larceny that took place at the Heritage Hills Society, in the Town of Somers.

Police say that in December of 2023, a $23,187.01 check belonging to the Heritage Hills Society was stolen, altered, and deposited into an account held by 38-year-old Vadim E. Farmakis. A total of $22,000 in withdrawals were later made from the account.

On Friday, Farmakis was arrested and charged with felony third-degree grand larceny, and misdemeanor third-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.

He was arraigned before the Town of Somers Court and released on his own recognizance. Farmakis is scheduled to return to court on October 20.
