Jewel of Himalaya Makes Westchester Magazines's Best New Restaurant List

When Jewel of Himalaya opened in Yorktown Heights, it was the one place where customers could immerse themselves in the culture and traditional food of Nepal while still staying local. 

The restaurant received praise from Patch readers who were happy to have "something different, interesting and delicious in town." One person said the decor was lovely, the management friendly and helpful.

Since then the restaurant has been reviewed by The New York Times, which described it as a "hidden gem" with a menu made of "interesting, modestly priced dishes that are nourishing, warming and terrifically tasty."

Now, it has been included on Westchester Magazine's "Best New Westchester Restaurants of 2012." The Jewel of Himalaya is among 11 other restaurants chosen by the magazine, including Hudson at Haymount House in Briarcliff Manor and Farmer & The Fish in North Salem. 

The magazine says Nepalese cuisine has the "charm of being theoretically exotic, while also offering intriguing twists on the Indian and pan-Asian dishes that locals know and love." They recommend the chapati, naans, and parathas, and especially the deep-fried Tibetan bread.
