Lake Mohegan FD's 90th Anniversary Parade; Interviews for Yorktown Town Comptroller

Here are five things you need to know Sept. 14 to Sept. 16.

1. Mohegan Volunteer Fire Association's 90th Anniversary Parade 

Route 6 (aka Cortlandt Boulevard) will be the site of the Westchester County Volunteer Firefighters Convention Parade and the on Saturday, Sept. 15. 

The parade route is going west on Route 6 to Westbrook Drive and following that to Oregon Road to the circle and then east on Oregon Road and ending at Hollow Brook Fire Station. The line up is at 1 p.m. at Van Cortlandtville Elementary School and the parade starts at 2 p.m.

2. Interviews for Town Comptroller

Yorktown town board members will hold a special meeting today, Sept. 14 at 4:30 p.m. The town board will take a vote to go into Executive Session to conduct interviews for the position of Town Comptroller. The meeting will take place at the Yorktown Town Hall, 363 Underhill Avenue in Yorktown.

3. Rosh Hashanah

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, starts Sunday, Sept. 16, and ends in the evening of Tuesday, Sept. 18. 

Yorktown, Lakeland and Somers schools are closed on Monday and Tuesday in observance of the holiday. 

4. School Taxes Due

School taxes for a fiscal year July 1 through June 30 is levied as of Sept. 1. The first half, due Sept. 1, must be paid by Sept. 30 to avoid penalty. Call 914-962-5722 Ext. 212 or visit the Tax Receiver’s Office Monday through Friday at the Town Hall with questions.

5. Sunny Weekend Ahead

According to the National Weather Service, a sunny weekend is ahead of us. Friday is expected to be sunny with high temperatures near 79. On Saturday and Sunday the temperatures will be near 73.
