Lakeland Girls Lacrosse Team Comes Short of Victory at State Finals

Lakeland/Panas Girls Lacrosse team came up just short against the #2 Ranked Farmingdale High School of Long Island who repeated as champs with a 6-5 victory in the Class A state final at SUNY Cortland, said James Van Develde, Lakeland School District spokesman.
Lakeland Panas' two-time All-American Alex Fitzpatrick earned tournament MVP status with 12 saves after making 17 in the 12-11 sudden-death victory over West Genesee in the semifinals on Friday.
The game was scoreless until L/P scored 16 minutes into the first half. The Rebels lead 2-0, before Farmingdale tied it up just before the half. The game went back and forth in the second half until Farmingdale scored with 13:27 left and again a couple minutes later.

Lakeland/Panas' Emma Bozek scored for the Rebels (19-3) with 6:41 on the clock to make it 6-5, but Farmingdale played the lacrosse equivalent of a four-corner offense the rest of the way to limit the Rebels to just two chances after Bozek's goal.
