Lyft Driver Killed In Somers Crash With Sanitation Truck
The 17-year-old passenger of the Lyft driver was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.
SOMERS, NY — A Lyft driver was killed in a collision with a sanitation truck in Somers Monday.
The New York State Police said the fatal crash was on Route 100 south of Route 35 in the town of Somers.
An investigation found a 2020 Honda CRV was headed north in the southbound lane, driven by Junior Polanco Brito, 36, of North Brunswick, New Jersey. He was working as a Lyft driver at the time, police said.

His Honda struck a southbound 2015 Mack sanitation truck, operated by John M. Paolucci, 45, of Harrison.
Polanco Brito was pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency medical paramedics.

His passenger — a 17-year-old — was severely injured and taken to Westchester Medical Center. The teen is listed in critical condition.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
