'Make a Difference': Clear Yorktown Dog Park Site at Sylvan Glen on Oct. 26

Community members are preparing the future dog park at the Sylvan Glen Park Preserve in Yorktown after town officials approved a wetlands application needed for the creation of the fenced-in, off-leash dog park.

Earlier this month, 30 students from Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES' Urban Forestry program worked to selectively trim the trees on the 1.3 acre site to give dogs a "little bit of room" to run freely.

Members of the Yorktown Dog Park Committee are now asking residents to "make a difference" and help clear the future Sylvan Glen Paw Park on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The day falls on "Make A Difference Day" – the largest national day of community service when volunteer around the world unite in a common mission to improve the lives of others.

"We need volunteers to help clear the grounds," said David Rocco, chairman of the Yorktown Community Dog Park. "This will help prepare the site for the fence contractor who is scheduled to commence work on the fence installation shortly thereafter."

If you are interested, or if you know of anyone who might be interested in helping out on Saturday, Oct. 26 e-mail coyoteroc@verizon.net or call (914) 819 - 8792 to register.
