Jane Daniels, a Mohegan Lake resident, has been honored as State Trail Worker of the Year in New York by American Trails, which is the national organization for advocacy and support of trails.
She is also leader for the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference in the Yorktown Community Trails Project.
The State Trail Worker Awards recognize individuals who have demonstrated outstanding contributions and provided consistent support for trail planning, development, or maintenance. They recognize the commitment and efforts of private or public sector individuals working for enhanced trail recreation in their local area/state.
Daniels, in addition to being a member and volunteer of the Trail Conference since 1979, including serving as chair of the board of directors from 2001-2007, has been involved with trails from the local to regional and state level over the past three decades.
The woman is author of the book Walkable Westchester. Daniels, along with her husband Walt, is a long-time volunteer with the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference.
"Jane is enthusiastic and articulate about trails and volunteerism," said Georgette Weir, communications manager for the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference.
