New Garbage Collector To Be Chosen In Yorktown
CRP Carting of Cortlandt Manor is set to be appointed at a Tuesday meeting of the Yorktown Town Board.
YORKTOWN, NY — After three garbage collection fiascos in the town of Yorktown, the Town Board will meet Tuesday night to appoint CRP Carting as Yorktown’s new garbage and recycling contractor.
Officials said, in a post on the town’s website, the Cortlandt Manor-based company was already on the job over the weekend getting refuse left uncollected off the street by the sudden financial collapse of Competitive Carting Corp. which began the job in January.
Yorktown Supervisor Tom Diana said he was working closely with CRP Carting and the town’s refuse and recycling department to make sure that the routing expected by residents is restored.

“CRP Carting is a local company with 35 years of experience and a fleet of over 60 trucks,” he said. “They already serve thousands of Westchester residences, so I’m sure that we will receive the garbage-removal service that our residents expect.”
Because of the Labor Day holiday, there was no collection on Monday. Residents who have Monday collection days will have their garbage collected Tuesday, and residents who have Tuesday collection will have their garbage collected Wednesday. Residents with Thursday collection will have their service on Friday, and residents with Friday collection will be serviced on Saturday, town officials said. See the week's schedule here.

The replacement of Competitive Carting came on the heels of the third major disruption in service since the contractor began working in Yorktown.
Competitive Carting struggles to get started in January, and in July, service came apart after the Fourth of July holiday.
In August, five garbage vehicles were repossessed from Competitive Carting, forcing the town to scramble for other coverage.
Two private carters, one of which was CRP Carting, stepped in to provide additional trucks and crews.
The Town Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Town Hall Board Room, 363 Underhill Ave. in Yorktown Heights.
