Overdose Caused Death Of Yorktown Couple Found With 150 Cats

The bodies of the couple were found by police after a welfare check was requested.

YORKTOWN, NY — A Yorktown couple, found dead in their home with more 150 cats, died from a drug overdose.

A Westchester County said that the deaths of Mary McGuinness, 58, and Patrick Hickey 57, were caused by a mix of fentanyl and cocaine, News 12 reported.

The deaths were ruled to be accidental.

The bodies of the couple were found Jan. 30 after a welfare check conducted by police at a Cordial Road address.

Yorktown police were unable to further investigate their deaths at that time because there were about 150 cats living there.

The SPCA Westchester Humane Law Enforcement Unit seized the animals that were living in filth and squalor.

Officials said the cats, which mostly appeared to be Abyssinian mixes, were suffering with upper respiratory, eye and skin infections, as well as being malnourished and dehydrated.
