UPDATE: Fuel Spill Contained at Crash Site on Route 9A NB in Ossining

Police are advising drivers to avoid northbound Route 9 north of Stormytown Road until the overturned garbage truck is righted and towed.

UPDATE 4:50PM—Route 9A is still closed. There was a spill of fuel from the overturned garbage truck which has been contained. The garbage truck apparently hit a pickup truck which had been stopped by Westchester County Police on patrol for a vehicle and traffic issue. The police officer was not involved in the collision. 

UPDATE 1:28PM—From the Westchester County Police:

Westchester County Police are investigating an accident on Route 9A in Ossining that caused a garbage truck to roll over, injuring the driver.

 County Police responded to northbound Route 9A and Shady Lane Farm Road at 12:20 p.m. after the garbage truck collided with a pickup truck and tipped on to its passenger side.  Members of the Ossining Fire Department also responded and removed the driver from the vehicle. He was taken by the Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla with neck and back injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck declined medical attention at the scene.

All traffic on northbound Route 9A is currently being diverted off the roadway on to Shady Lane Farm Road while an accident investigation is conducted by county police.

 

1 p.m.: A 12:30 p.m. accident involving an overturned truck has temporarily closed the northbound lanes of Route 9A near route 9 in Ossining, the New York State Department of Transportation reported this afternoon.

Police are directing traffic off of Route 9A at Quaker Bridge Road to Route 9 as of 1:15 p.m.

The Ossining Fire Department Fire Rescue is also at the scene.

Drivers are being asked to avoid the area while the accident is cleared, per an advisory from Westchester County Police.
