Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect Accused of Stealing $15,000 from Yorktown Jewelers

63-year-old Daniel V. Gastin, of Bronx, who walked into the store, displayed a handgun, and robbed Yorktown Jewelers of thousands of dollars, was arrested on June 25.

Police arrested 63-year-old Daniel V. Gastin, of the Bronx, who allegedly robbed a jewelry store of $15,000 at gunpoint after tying up the two store employees. 

He is charged with first-degree robbery, class "E" felony, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class "C" felony, and first degree unlawful imprisonment, class "E" felony.

Daniel V. Gastin entered Yorktown Jewelers, located in the Roma Building at 2008 Crompond Road, around 12:30 p.m. on June 21, and robbed the store of $15,000 in cash at gunpoint, police said. The defendant allegedly tied up the two employees and threatened to kill them if they tried to escape.

He left the scene in a light colored pick up truck. The suspect was described as a white male, in his late 50s or early 60s, at medium height and heavy set, gray hair and ruddy complexion. He was wearing white shorts and a blue polo shirt, Lt. Kevin Soravilla said.

"The Yorktown Police Detective division initiated an investigation into the incident and aggressively circulated pictures to area businesses of the subject captured by store security cameras," according to a police report.

As a result, on June 25, a Yorktown jewelry store owner reported that he was remotely monitoring his Bronx store and he believed the man who was inside the location attempting to exchange foreign currency, fit the description of the suspect.

With the assistance of the New York Police Department, police detained the subject who was later identifies as the Daniel V.Gastin. His vehicle was impounded to the Yorktown Police Departent and a search warrant was executed. Police found a loaded firearm and zip ties, which were observed on the store security camera, allegedly used by the suspect in the course of the robbery. 

Daniel V. Gastin was placed under arrest in the Bronx and later transported for processing at Yorktown police headquarters. Yorktown Justice Gilbert remanded the suspect to the Westchester County jail on no bail. The defendant is due in court on June 29 at 9 a.m. 

The suspect has a criminal past. He was arrested and convicted for committing three robberies prior to 1984. Since then, there are no criminal records until the recent arrest, police said.
