Police Blotter: Scooter Runs Into A Car, Woman Charged With DWI, Stolen Identity

A round up of police activity from July 2 to July 8: A woman is charged with DWI, domestic disputes, dozens of reports of fireworks, stolen Lexus from Macy's parking lot, two residents report identity theft, lost dog, thief caught in Sears.

July 2

6:34 p.m. Police arrested Nicholas Vitucci, 21, of Yorktown Heights, and Louis Vitucci, 19, of Yorktown Heights, and charged them with second-degree criminal contempt, a class "A" misdemeanor. According to police, officers Scatola, Doerr, Sansone, Sgt. Fister, and Det. Shanahan responded to a call for a domestic incident complaint at a Rustic Ridge Court residency. It was determined the two defendants violated duly served criminal court temporary orders of protection that have been issued protecting another family member. Louis and Nicholas Vitucci were arraigned by Judge Lagonia and released on their own recognizance. They are due back in court on July 20.

10:22 p.m. A Fairview Drive resident reported burglary. There was $6,500 worth of jewelry stolen.

4 p.m.- 11:59 p.m. Police received dozens of reports of fireworks, which sounded in the area. 

July 3

12:44 a.m. Police arrested Kelly Howard, 45, of Mohegan Lake, and charged her with a DWI and driving with a BAC of 0.08 percent or more, both unclassified misdemeanors. She was also charged with speeding and making an unsafe lane change, both infractions. According to police, on July 3 at approximately 12:30 a.m., Detective Shanahan was patrolling Route 6 when he allegedly observed a speeding vehicle. He stopped the car and upon investigation the defendant was arrested for driving the vehicle in an intoxicated state. After she was transported to headquarters and was submitted to a breath test, she was additionally charged of operating a vehicle of a BAC of 0.08 percent or more.

11:58 a.m. Police received a report of a head on collision at the intersection of Quinlan Street and London Road. There were two drivers involved in the accident- a 19-year-old male driving a 2009 Nissan, and a 63-year-old male driving a 2005 Nissan. Both cars were towed from the scene. The 19-year-old was driving south on Quinlan Street and when he attempted to make a left onto London Road, he collided into the second vehicle The young driver, who failed to keep right, was transported to the Hudson Valley Hospital.

July 4

9:30 a.m. Police received a report of a gas leak at Sophia's Pizza at Downing Drive (in the Turco's shopping center). Con Ed and the fire department were notified. They made a forced entry into the building to take care of the leak. No one was there at the pizzeria at the time. Police report no injuries.

10:01 p.m. A 15-yeard old male left his house on Gomer Street at 5:15 p.m. and his parents reported he has not returned yet. Their son returned home at 11:10 p.m. His whereabouts were unknown.

3 p.m.- 11:59 p.m. Police received dozens of reports of fireworks. Some of the fireworks were reported at Farm Walk Road, Maple Court, Emerson Court, East Mohansic Avenue, Fern Crest Drive, Brender Lane. Police report no arrests and no injuries.

July 5

3:31 p.m. Old Yorktown Road resident reported identity theft. Someone opened several credit cards in her name. The case is still open and under investigation.

July 6

2:33 a.m. Police arrested Thomas D. Plant, 21, of Yorktown, and charged him with third-degree assault, a class "A" misdemeanor after he surrendered himself at police headquarters. According to police, they received a report on July 3 at about 3:30 a.m. at Hedwig Drive, that Plant had assaulted another person causing lacerations about the person's face. Officer Angel Garcia was assigned to investigate the case.  

9:21 a.m. Police responded to a call from a Dogwood Drive resident about ambers between his house and his neighbor's house, possibly due to fireworks. The fire department was dispatched.

2:20 p.m. Carmine J. DiCostanzo, 23, of Woodbourne, NY, turned himself in to the Yorktown Police Department and was processed on second-degree harassment, a violation. On February 27, 2010 police officers responded to 620 East Main Street, apt. 5C for a domestic dispute report, which had occurred in the past. Investigation revealed that a violation of harassment was committed by DiCostanzo, who left the scene prior to the officers arrival. Criminal summons were issued for DiCostanzo, but after numerous police attempts to have the defendant turn himself in, a warrant was issues. DiCostanzo appeared in court on July 6 and was released on $250 cash bail. He is due back in court on July 13.

3:30 p.m. A Cecile Drive resident, 64, was driving on Springhurst Street when an 18-year-old male, who was driving his electric scooter, ran into her vehicle. The two were driving on the same road and when the woman attempted to make a left turn onto Sharon Lane, the scooter tried to pass her on the left, but ran into her. The 18-year-old was transported to the Hudson Valley Hospital. There was minor damage to the car.

6:00 p.m. Police arrested 53-yeard-old David A. Rocco, of Yorktown, and charged him with third-degree attempted assault, a class "B" misdemeanor. He voluntarily appeared at police headquarters. According to police on June 5 at approximately 10:10 p.m. they received a call from a Wharton Drive resident about a domestic dispute. Officers Lawrence Paniccia and Mark Rapisarda responded to the scene and investigation revealed that the defendant allegedly threw a family member to the ground and then kicked her before fleeing the scene. Rocco was served a temporary order of protection.

7:39 p.m. Police received a call from a Hickory Farm resident that a dog was suffering heat exhaustion on the lawn. Officer James Waterhouse responded to the scene.

8:09 p.m. Police received a call about a hazardous condition at 1275 Hanover Street. A tree was across the road near the Hanover Hilltop Farm.

10:40 p.m. Disorderly youths were ringing doorbells in the neighborhood of Tulip Drive. Officer Lawrence Paniccia responded to the call.

July 7

12:06 a.m. Security officers at Sears reported seeing Tupperware package wrapped in plastic wrap with bugs at the parking lot of the mall. Officers Anthony Dipietranto and John Deiulio responded to the scene and opened the container. They found three large poultry turkeys. The subjects decided to discard them and were on the scene when police arrived.

6:40 a.m. Police received a call of a suspicious incident at Allan Avenue, the resident reported the window was hit over the past several days, but police reported no criminal mischief. The lawn mower had kicked up a rock to the window.

10:07 a.m. A small white Springer Spaniel was found at Hedge Street. There were no tags. The dog was identified as 8-week-old Bella.

6:14 p.m. Police responded to a larceny call from Macy's. A customer reported a stolen vehicle (Lexus SUV, New York State license plate) from the mall's parking lot.

9:08 p.m. Police received a call from Sears security that a 17-year-old female was in custody for attempted robbery. Officers Mark Rapisarda and Lawrence Paniccia responded to the scene.

July 8

7:52 a.m. Police received a report of graffiti in the men's room of the John C. Hart Memorial Library. There was unrecognizable writing. A library custodian found it in the morning. No one was caught.

10:49 p.m. A Garth Court resident reported that an unknown person used his personal information to open a credit card. The owner found out a watch has been placed on his credit card when he attempted to use his Capital One Visa credit card at a gas station. A wash has been placed on his credit card because of previous suspicious activities.
