Police: Woman Attempts to Cash Forged Check in Yorktown

A 20-year-old Spring Valley woman was arrested after she attempted to cash a forged check in the amount of $980.78, Yorktown police said.
Nakia S. Valdez was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a felony.
Police began the investigation on Feb. 27 when they received a call from Chase Bank, located at 720 Lee Boulevard, that a woman had attempted to cash a forged check. Initial attempts to locate Valdez were unsuccessful and a warrant was issued by the Yorktown Justice Court.

When Valdez was arrested on an unrelated charge on April 5 by the Spring Valley Police Department, police learned of the warrant. The woman was turned over to the Yorktown Police Department where she was processed.
Valdez was remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $3,500 bail. He was scheduled to appear in Yorktown Town Court on April 9.
