GOSHEN, NY — A Port Jervis man will be going to prison after being convicted by a jury of illegally having fentanyl and cocaine.

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler said Sheldon Cooper, 36, of Port Jervis, was sentenced to an aggregate sentence of 10 years for third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony.

Hoovler said fentanyl is lethal and is increasingly linked to overdose deaths.

"I hope the significant sentence in this case stands as a warning to others that dealing dangerous drugs will not be tolerated," he said. "My office will continue to prioritize the prosecution of drug dealers and seek to hold them accountable, including by litigating the charges brought by law enforcement through to verdict."
