Proposed $115.7M Peekskill School Budget On The Ballot May 16

Also on the ballot are two people vying for seats on the Board of Education.

PEEKSKILL, NY — The 2023 budget and school board vote is May 16, and two seats are up for election on the Peekskill Board of Education.

The proposed spending plan of $115.7 million is 9.7 percent higher than the current budget. District officials said they were focused on the elementary enrichment program; literacy, special education and math coaches and lower class sizes at the secondary level.

The tax levy is expected to rise just 2 percent, which is below the state's tax cap.

School officials said the homeowner’s average annual impact in taxes falls to $89.72 in 2023-24, which is a $65.65 decrease from 2022-2023.

A budget hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. May 2.

Two, three-year seats on the Board of Education are up for election: incumbents Branwen MacDonald and Samuel North. Voters may choose up to two.

Voters may register online with the New York Department of Motor Vehicles, or by mail through the County Board of Elections or at the Office of the District Clerk at 914-737-3300 ext. 1532.

Registered voters may request an application for an absentee ballot by contacting the district clerk's office at 914-737-3300 ext. 1532.

Completed applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter or the voter’s designated agent.

Absentee ballots must be returned to the District Clerk's Office by 5 p.m. May 16.
