Renowned Physician Kills Baby, Then Self In Hudson Valley

State police said the scene was consistent with a murder/suicide.

SOMERS, NY — The New York State Police are investigating a murder/suicide involving a noted oncologist in Westchester County Saturday.

The state police’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation Somers said around 7 a.m. Saturday Krystal Cascetta went into her child’s room and shot the child.

Cascetta then turned the gun on herself, police said.

Authorities said the scene is consistent with a murder/suicide.

Dr. Krystal Cascetta was a renowned oncologist for Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

According to her bio on the hospital’s website, Cascetta was an assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She was an active investigator of breast cancer clinical trials and had a clinical focus that included the treatment of breast cancer, gynecologic cancer, sarcoma and gastrointestinal cancers.
