Vincent Musacchio, a Yorktown resident and firefighter for the FDNY, along with 25-year-old Brewster resident Ryan Blackwell were recently featured on LoHud.com for battling an apartment fire in the Bronx early Saturday.
When the men got to the building and reached the apartment on fire, Musacchio knocked the door down. Firefighters encountered heavy heat and zero visibility, according to the report.
This LoHud.com report by Jonathan Bandler tells the story of how Blackwell, who saved a 54-year-old woman, was following his father's lead.
Blackwell's father, Christopher, was also a New York City firefighter. He died in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. During his career with the FDNY he received many fire department awards for bravery.
