Should NY Hold More Than 1 Primary This Summer? [POLL]
With the re-districting maps still up in the air, New York could hold more than one primary. Is that a good use of taxpayer money?
NEW YORK — People have things to do in the summer in New York.
Unfortunately, thanks to congressional and state Senate redistricting maps that didn't pass muster in New York, some voters in the state may have to turn up at the polls on three separate occasions.
A federal judge ordered New York on Tuesday to move its congressional primary to Aug. 23, NBC News reported.

State Democrats had wanted to keep the primary on June 28, along with the governor and lieutenant governor primaries.
If all the primaries aren't moved to the August date, then the taxpayers will have to pay for holding two elections during the summer.

On top of that, Rep. Antonio Delgado, D-Rhinebeck, was chosen to replace Brian Benjamin as lieutenant governor, opening up the race for the 19th Congressional District, which includes parts of the Hudson Valley and the Catskills.
When Delgado officially becomes lieutenant governor, Gov. Kathy Hochul will need to set up a special election this summer to fill the seat.
And wait, there's more.
Rep. Tom Reed, R-23rd Congressional District, resigned Tuesday to take a lobbying job. Hochul will need to schedule a special election to fill that vacancy when he officially leaves office, The New York Times reported. The 23rd District is the Southern Tier of the state.
At this point, nothing is set in stone. The state Board of Elections has not changed its 2022 Political Calendar. In fact, it warns, "Please be aware that since this is a re-districting year this calendar is subject to change by the Legislature and should be used advisedly."
There may be more clarity after the new congressional and state Senate districts are unveiled on Monday, but the question remains, does New York really need to have more than one primary election in 2022?
