The following local high school students were awarded the 2012 Saint Michael's College Book Award for Academic Achievement with a Social Conscience:
- John Davin of Yorktown Heights, a student at John F. Kennedy Catholic High School
- Stephen Dimaria of Yorktown Heights, a student at Yorktown High School
- Deanna Drenga of Yorktown Heights, a student at Yorktown High School
- Jash Patel of Yorktown Heights, a student at Lakeland High School
The award recognizes students who demonstrate a commitment to leadership in volunteer service and academic achievement.

2. Penny Social at the Library
The Girl Scouts in Troop 1358, comprised of 13 6th-grade students at , are partnering with the Friends of the .

The girls are doing a bake sale that will be part of the Penny Social and the Summer Reading Club promotion scheduled for Saturday, June 23, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the library on E. Main Street in Shrub Oak.
