From The Yorktown Teen Center, Inc.:
Yorktown teens who attend the Yorktown Teen Center recently honored teachers who have made the greatest impact in their lives so far. The selected teachers received a gift, certificate of appreciation and personalized letter of thanks.
Teens submitted names of their favorite teacher (past and present) to be honored and gave their reason why. Most stated that they nominated their teacher because they felt the teacher made them feel cared for or respected.
“Teaching is a challenging profession," said Judy Arnold, board member and the project coordinator. "Teachers have a lasting impact on those they teach. They deserve recognition and acknowledgement for going above and beyond.”
This is a yearly event at the center where teens honor their teachers.
"It is a great way to encourage an attitude of gratitude and do something special for an important person in their lives," Board President Helena Rodriguez said.
One of the teacher recipients, Mr. Pavella from Mildred E. Strang Middle School made a surprise visit and played pool with the teens.
