YORKTOWN, NY — A school that has been teaching martial arts to generations of Westchester residents has a brand-new look.
Yorktown officials gathered last week to celebrate the grand opening of W.S. Jeung Taekwondo at its new location.
The martial arts school, which has operated for 26 years in Yorktown, is now in a new, larger, 2,500-square-foot location at 1905 Commerce Street.

The school's founder, Grandmaster W.S. Jeung, began his martial arts training at the age of eight in Paju, South Korea, before attending Yong In University, one of his country's top martial arts institutions. After immigrating to the U.S. in 1998, he soon opened his own school.
"Our community, our family, our students, our parents, that's what makes it very special here," Grandmaster Jeung's son, Philip Jeung, said during a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The school describes itself as a place that creates genuine human relationships, nurtures personal fulfillment, and enhances mindfulness.
"I'd like to congratulate Philip (Jeung) and his family," Supervisor Ed Lachterman said. "It’s not just a business, you're serving our community, working with our children, and giving them something to build upon, so God bless you. That's an amazing thing and our children need it."
W.S. Jeung Taekwondo serves children from age four to adults, six days a week. More information is available on their website.
"The studio is gorgeous," Councilman Sergio Esposito said. "You have such a big following here. It's a tribute to the fine, great work you do here in our community, and we appreciate it."
