Wanted: Your 'Battle of Yorktown' Photos
Residents pick up trash in celebration of Earth Day.
Yorktown residents waged their annual war against litter as they took to town roadways to pick up litter and place it in trash bags on Saturday, April 20.
The annual clean-up event is called "The Battle of Yorktown" and it is coordinated by town's Refuse and Recycling Department.
Thirteen boys from Cub Scout Pack 134 of Mohegan Lake helped clean the area near the George Washington Elementary School. They collected about five large bags of garbage and cleaned along Lexington Avenue, all around the perimeter of the playground and ballfields, and finally all along West street.

"We found tons of empty glass bottles that had been tossed from car windows, as well as cigarette butts, and even a top part of a shovel," Joanne Erenberg said. "They all worked very hard."
