Yorktown: Tree Planting Ceremony Dedicated to the Victims of the Newtown Tragedy

Where: John DeVito Veteran's Memorial Field, Veterans Road, Yorktown Heights, NY
When: Sunday June 9 at 1 p.m.
Cost: Free
Description: The Yorktown Elks will host a ceremony with town officials dedicating a tree and plaque in Memory of the Newtown, CT tragedy.

Yorktown: Mother's Comfort Project Westchester

Where: Fabric Mart, 2019 Crompond Rd., Yorktown Heights,
When:  Saturday, June 8 at 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Cost: Free
Description: Help sew beds for shelter dogs and cats and catnip toys for the cats. All the beds and toys will be donated to Westchester shelters including Little Orphan Animals and Westchester Humane Society. Contact Liz Peterson at 914-737-2228 or kjg2@msn.com if you wish to volunteer. 

Yorktown: Flea Market 

Where: Driveway entrance between 257 and 271 Veterans Road

Description: There will be primarily antiques and collectibles, with some crafts and other items. Admission and parking is free.

Somers: The Circus is Coming to Town

Where: Fireman’s Field on Route 202

Yorktown: The Seed Day Care Center Family Day

Where: 2084 Baldwin Road, Yorktown Heights
When:  Sunday, June 9, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Description: The Seed Day Care Center is having their annual Family Day for past, present and future families. There will be food, fun and information about The Seed's pre-school, pre-k, full day kindegarten and summer camps.

Yorktown: Local Author, School Administrator and Concert Pianist to Perform With Students 


Where: John C. Hart Memorial Library, 1130 East Main Street, Shrub Oak
When: Sunday, June 9 at 2 p.m. 
Description: Local Author, school administrator and concert pianist Gary Chattman will perform at the library. Chattman will be joined by some of his current and former student musicians, including 5-year-old twins David and Rebecca Rosen. Also performing will be former students Mitch Barr, Will Faden, and Jesse Waters,  and current student, Emma Selesnick. 

Yorktown: Penny Social 

Where: 2966 Crompond (202) across from FDR Park in Yorktow
When: Sunday, June 9 at 11 am.
Cost: Free
Description: There will be food, fun and door prizes. You do not have to be present to win. There will be toys, sports items, cookbooks and surprises. Every item provides assistance to local residents in need of food, shelter, clothing, and other items.

Bronxville: Sidewalk Sale & Street Fair

Where: Downtown BronxvilleWhen: Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.Cost: FreeDescription: The Bronxville Sidewalk sale will happen on Friday and Saturday. On Saturday, there will be a street fair on Park Place in addition to the sidewalk sale. From noon until 5 p.m. Saturday there will be live entertainment, food, vendors and activities for the kids.

Dobbs Ferry: Barbecue 101

Harrison: "Earth Prayers" Art Opening

Description: How art is used to heal ourselves and our planet. Come celebrate art as a powerful form of self-expression. On exhibit will be mandalas (sacred circles), assemblages, paintings, illustrations, photography, jewelry, pottery among other original handcrafted items. Refreshments will be served.

Larchmont-Mamaroneck: Marine Education Center

Description: Stop in and see: a spider crab, all kinds of shells, live fish from Mamaroneck Harbor, a horseshoe crab exhibit, amazing photos of the birds of Long Island Sound. Look into a microscope. Make a bookmark. Do a drawing of what you see at the Center. There is something for all ages at the Marine Education Center. Look for the YELLOW FLAGS!!

Ossining: 33rd Annual Ossining Village Fair

Where: Downtown village, at Main and Spring streets just off Route 9
When: Saturday, June 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Cost: Free
Description: There will be 170 food, craft, merchandise, and organizational vendors and booths; four entertainment stages; children's rides, games and entertainment; dunk tank and "best slice" contest at the Ossining PBA booth; and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a blood drive at the nearby Community Center. New Rochelle: Kite Day at Davenport Park

Where: Davenport Park, Davenport Avenue, New RochelleWhen: Saturday, June 8, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Rain date: Sunday, June 9)Cost: FreeDescription: Bring your own kite or use one available at the event. There will be a 1 p.m. kite demonstration, along with music and food vendors. At noon, you will be able to view the Mayor’s Cup Regatta on Long Island Sound. The event is sponsored by the 325th Anniversary Committee and New Rochelle Department of Parks and Recreation.

Pleasantville: Farmers’ Market Happenings

Where: Memorial Plaza in Pleasantville

Description: In addition to its weekly selection of vendors, the Pleasantville Farmers’ Market is offering a few special events this week. From 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Blues duo Barebones will be performing live. During that same time, local pastry chef Laura Anderson will be leading a make-your-own demonstration. Finally, chefs from two new Pleasantville restaurants—Bistro 146 and Bhog—will lead culinary demonstrations using market ingredients from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Tarrytown: Jazz in the Afternoon at the Neighborhood House

Where: The Neighborhood House, 43 Wildey Street, Tarrytown

Description: Come out and support your local Neighborhood House. Proceeds from the afternoon help support their senior programs promoting health, recreation and lifetime learning. Enjoy an hour of jazz by a trio of musicians led by David August on piano. Hors d'oeuvres, drinks and desserts will be served. Enjoy a preview of the Senior Art Workshop Summer Exhibit. Raffle Drawing for gift certificates and other prizes.

Irvington: Outdoor Pop-up Art Gallery and Craft Fair

Where: Main Street School, 101 Main St., Irvington 
When: Saturday, June 8, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Description: As part of the Rivertowns Week festivities, many area artists will be showcasing and selling their work at this event, which also features children's outdoor activities. If it rains, the art will move indoors to the school auditorium. Artists include Tarrytown muralist Jett White who will be displaying the many woodcut tugboat prints that comprise the C-Town mural. He will be leading hands-on demos so visitors can bring home their own prints.

Pearl River: New Jersey and New York 100th Anniversary Fireman Association Parade

Where: Steps of from Central Ave. and John Street in Pearl River 1 p.m. Saturday 
Cost: Free
Description: The New Jersey and New York Volunteer Fireman’s Association will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a convention and parade with a focus on the history of the volunteer fire departments in the area. The parade will begin with a Parade of History including trucks antique trucks and apparatus all through their history. 

Rye Brook: Walk for Morry’s

Where: Blind Brook High School

Description: Project Morry is a year-round youth development organization, in its 16th successful year, providing inner-city kids with a multi-year commitment, anchored by a superb residential summer camp experience. The children, for whom these experiences would not otherwise be available, benefit from a network of support and gain increased social skills, enhanced self-esteem, positive core values and a greater sense of personal responsibility. Port Chester: The Connect Show

Description: The event, hosted by Native Goods, will bring StreetWear Fashion, Artists and Skateboarders all under one roof to showcase their products and talents. Native Goods is holding the event to raise Funds for a Skate Park, to give a place for the youth in the community a place to skate and have fun. The Native Goods owners are committed to starting an artistic revolution in the place that raised them.
