What to Do This Weekend: Yorktown Relay for Life, Fat Tire Festival, Carnivals and Fairs
Summertime fun is kicking off in towns across the region.
When/Where: Friday, June 8 at 7 p.m. into Saturday, June 9
Why Go: Raise cancer awareness and honor local cancer survivors. Yorktown's Relay for Life is the largest fundraising event for the American Cancer Society in Westchester county and one of the largest in New York and New Jersey. Each year the community raises more money than the year before. At nightfall, participants will light thousands of luminary candles as a way to honor both victims and survivors. There are various activities planned throughout the night while residents take turns making laps around the track.

Hilltop Hanover Farm's Farm Stand Opens
When/Where: Friday, June 8 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, June 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at in Yorktown
Why Go: The Farm Stand opens for the season with lots of greens, including enormous heads of lettuce (red and green), swiss chard, kale, spinich and bok choy. The vegetable U-Pick will be open on Saturday, June 9 – there will be guided farm tours, at 10 a.m., 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Why Go: The award-winning Lighthouse Youth Theater (LYT) is tickled pink to present the first Youth Theater Production in Westchester County of 'Legally Blonde, the Musical' The cast is full of tTeenagers from throught Westchester and Connecticut. The musical is directed by John Fanelli with choreography by Jesse Pellegrino and musical direction by Bill Magaliff. Production stage management by Diane Bradsell with assistant stage manager Michael Herwitz.

Fat Tire Festival
When/Where: Sunday, June 10, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Peekskill
Why Go: The Fat Tire Festival is a celebration of mountain biking camaraderie. Spend a day riding some of the greatest trails in New York State. Enjoy guided trail rides, raffles for prizes and live music, along with bicycling contests and fun—including many skills competitions, a wheelie contest, fast and slow races, and the infamous, crowd-pleasing “skinny skills” contest on an ultra-narrow, raised wooden obstacle course.
Price: Admission is free, parking is $5. The event will be held rain or shine. All riders are required to wear a helmet for all festival activities.
Annual Crafts & Strawberry Festival
When/Where: Sunday, June 10, 2 to 5 p.m. at The Little Red Schoolhouse in Cordlandt Manor
Why Go: The will host its 2nd Annual Strawberry Festival combined with an open house and crafts sale. Fresh whole berries, shortcake and other strawberry treats will be on sale with other goodies, soft drinks and coffee or tea.
Price: Free to the public and funds raised will benefit the year-round programs of the Society.
Hike the TK Trail
When/Where: Sunday, June 10, 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at , meet at Kitchawan Preserve
Why Go: Take a 6-mile (one-way)hike that meanders through old farm fields and reclaimed woods, follows a road along the reservoir and then climbs a steep hill with views to the Croton Reservoir. The hike concludes at Teatown and a van will return drivers to their cars.
Price: Free for members; $5 per person for non-members Wear hiking boots, bring water and lunch. Rain cancels. Please note this program is for adults only and the hike is strenuous.
Fol-De-Rol
Where/When: June 7 and 8: 6-10 p.m., 10 a.m.-10 p.m. on June 9; 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on June 10 at Wampus Brook Park, Route 128 and Maple Ave., Armonk.
Why Go: It is a four-day carnival and a country fair to kick off summer. The Armonk Lions Club’s 38th annual Fol-De-Rol will be chock-full of carnival rides, food, craft vendors, live music, pony rides, 50/50 raffles, dancing, and vendors with arts, crafts and ethnic food. The event is the Lions’ biggest fundraiser and supports numerous, important community-service projects.

American Cancer Society's Bark for Life at Lyndhurst
When/Where: Sunday, June 10, Check-in at 8:30 a.m. for the 9:45 a.m. walk at in Tarrytown
Why Go: Leash up your pooch and mingle with exhibitors at this dog festival featuring entertainment, contests, food and raffles.
Price: $20
Annual Woofstock
When/Where: Sunday, June 10, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Sycamore Bark Park in Mahopac.
Why Go: The park-wide event includes a Grateful Dog Walkway, demonstrations, vendors, animal-rescue groups with adoptable dogs, dog micro-chipping, Doggy Chill Zone, Peace Dog Cafe, tie dyeing, all-day music, children's entertainment, on-site children's fingerprinting, photo booths and food.
Price: $1 admission
Katonah Fire Department Parade and Carnival
When/Where: Wednesday June 6, carnival opens at 7 p.m., Thursday, June 7 and Friday, June 8, it opens at 6 p.m. On Saturday, June 9 carnival opens 1:00 pm. (and closes at 10 p.m. each night) at the
Why Go: It’s a hometown carnival in Katonah—the 2012 Katonah Fire Department Carnival is scheduled to begin with the annual firemen's parade on Wed June 6 at 7 p.m. On Thursday, June 7, ride all night for one price from 6-10 pm.
Price: Thurs. June 7th ride all night for $22 from 6-10 pm or Sat. June 9th ride all afternoon for $22 from 1-5 pm
Ossining Village Fair
When/Where: Saturday June 9, 10 a.m. (rain date Saturday, June 10) on Historic Main Street in Ossining.
Why Go: This has become the premier community event of the year. It reflects the unique character of the village, its diversity, cultural growth, and the spirit and energy of its local organizations. Last year over 18,000 people attended the one day event. There will be vendors, food, and live entertainment.
