William W. Twardy of Crompond Dies at 83

William W. Twardy of Crompond passed away on May 28. He was 83. 

Twardy was born on Jan. 26, 1929 in New York City to Wasyl and Catherine Twardy. He married Anita Ignatik on June 21, 1952. He was a longtime member of the Window Cleaners Union and started working in NYC. Starting in 1959, he was working in Peekskill for Reliable Window Cleaning until he retired in 1993.  

The man was known to family and friends as a world-renowned clammer earning the nickname name Clambo. His favorite clamming areas were near his summer home in Rhode Island. Twardy had a great work ethic as well as many natural talents. He built the family home in Crompond in 1959. His love of family, friends, music and sports made him who he was.

He was an avid camper, active Boy Scout leader Troop 84 in Toddville, former Little League Manager in Cortlandt. According to friends and family, he was always there for the neighborhood kids, helping them with sports buying baseball gloves for those who couldn’t afford it.

Most recently spent a lot of time gardening with his wife Anita. He is survived by his wife Anita, two sons William C. Twardy (Joan) and Michael Twardy, two daughters Kathleen Rosoff (Marc) and Karen Stover (Paul), seven grandchildren Billy, Nicole, Justin, Marissa, Shana, Devin and Colby, as well as cousins Jenny Krawchuck, Richard and Maryann Artemchuck.

The Twardy family will receive friends at the on Wednesday 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial is Thursday at The Church of the Holy Spirit in Cortlandt Manor at 10 a.m. 

In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hudson Valley Hospital would be appreciated.
