'Wishes' Supports Relay for Life, Post Your Team's Scores, YHS to Receive $5,000

Here are five things you need to know today, June 7.

1. Talented Young Director, YHS to Receive $5,000

Yorktown is just full of talented directors. Paul Schwedelson, a student, has received a winning V-Award for his full-game coverage of Yorktown vs. Mt. Vernon on MSG. For his accomplishment, Yorktown High School will be granted $5,000. 

Now in its third year, the V-Awards celebrate excellence in student-produced content and inspire creativity among the next generation of broadcast professionals. This year more than 2,100 submissions were received, showcasing the region’s very best in high school media production.

2. Last Call to Local Artists

Proposals from individual artists, handcrafters and artistic collectives are being considered for Grand Central Terminal’s six-week, 2012 Holiday Fair, which kicks off the Terminal’s Centennial celebrations in November. Applicants can submit photos and brief descriptions of their handmade merchandise online and may get more information about the Holiday Fair click here.

Deadline for submissions is Thursday, June 14. The 2012 Fair runs Nov. 12 – Dec. 24. Questions about the application process can be sent to info@grandcentralterminal.com.   for more info.

3. Wishes Supports Relay for Life

 in Yorktown is donating a portion of all sales to the American Cancer Society to highlight the Relay for Life of Yorktown that will be taking place on Friday, June 8. Anyone who spends $30 or more will receive a coupon for 20 percent off on a future purchase!

4. Fat Tire Festival This Sunday

Guided trail rides, raffles for prizes and live music, along with bicycling contests and fun, will highlight the Fat Tire Festival, Sunday, June 10, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at  in Peekskill.  for more info
