Members of the Yorktown American Legion Post are raising money to provide support and services to survivors and their families.
To accomplish their task, they have designed and commissioned a “Veterans Commemorative Park” which will include headstones, flagstaff, lighting and "engraved bricks" to remember all veterans.
A dedication will be held after the Yorktown Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 27.
Veterans, The State Police Color Corp, the Knights of Columbus Color Corp and the American Legion Color Corp. will be participating in this dedication that will be performed by Vice Commander Gerry Knapp. Yorktown Supervisor Michael Grace will give the marks at the ceremony.
There are 115 bricks that have been installed to date and orders continue to come in. The money raised will be used as donations to the wounded Warriors Program, Comfort Warriors, Fisher Houses, Montrose VA Residents and various Yorktown community programs.
The Yorktown American Legion Post was established on May 1, 1931 and celebrated its 82nd anniversary this year.
