Yorktown Doctor 'Ruffles Feathers' in Somers Over 13 Chickens and 2 Roosters

According to an article in the Journal News, Dr. Richard Klein wants to keep the chickens he is raising at his Somers home.

A Somers resident, who specializes in internal medicine and infectious diseases in Yorktown Heights, is fighting the Somers Zoning Board of Appeals, according to an article in the Journal News

Dr. Richard Klein, who is also an author and previously ran for Congress in the 19th District, is raising 13 chickens and two roosters at his home, the paper reported. But according to reporter Barbara Livingston Nackman, no roosters and no more than six chickens are allowed. Klein hopes to be granted an exception to the law and given a special use permit.

According to the story, one of the roosters is set to move to a farm in Yorktown. In addition, laws on allowing chickens on residential properties can vary from one municipality to another. Yorktown, for example, allows chickens and roosters on parcels of more than 5 acres, Nackman wrote.
