Yorktown FD Rescues 2 From Overturned Car Off Taconic Parkway
Officials said the car was down an embankment, inches from ending up in a stream that was swelling from the day's heavy rain.
YORKTOWN, NY — Two people were rescued from an overturned car that had gone off the roadway and was close to entering a swelling stream.
The Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department said it received an alert about a motor vehicle accident with unknown injuries on the northbound Taconic State Parkway around 1:40 p.m. Wednesday.
When first responders got to the scene, which was near Illington Road, they found a two-car accident with both vehicles off the roadway on opposite sides of the parkway.

Firefighters said one of the cars had no injuries, but the second was found overturned and down a muddy embankment. It was just inches, they said, from entering a stream, that runs parallel to the parkway, that was swelling because of the heavy rainfall.
There were two people in that car who were trapped.

Fire personnel secured the vehicle and used a tow truck that was in the area to keep the car from sliding further down the embankment.
Hydraulic rescue tools were employed to gain access to the people who were trapped. The people were stabilized, extricated and carry up from the embankment.
The victims were taken to an area trauma center by the Yorktown Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
