Girl Scouts from all over the region came together Saturday morning for Operation Cookie Drop, a program that provides sweet treats for those in the military.
Yorktown girl scouts were also among the volunteers who helped pack up approximately 75,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies. The girls sold the cookies as "military donations" earlier this year.
The cookies – one of the most sought-after items among service members overseas – should reach the military personnel overseas in August. The Girl Scout cookies destined for hospitals will likely arrive in the next week or so.
In addition to packing up the cookies, Yorktown girl scouts made cards for the soldiers, and decorated the cartons being shipped with drawings and messages for the soldiers, Kevin Byrnes told Patch.
Among the volunteers were Kaitlin Byrnes and Emily Kubicsko, of Girl Scout troop 2067, as well as girl scouts of different troops in Lakeland East who decorated the top which will carry boxes of Girl Scout cookies to troops overseas.
