Yorktown To Install EV Charging Stations At Hart Library

When installed, there will be four dual-port, level-two charges for seven parking spaces.

YORKTOWN, NY — In the near future, you will no longer have to decide between going to the library and getting your electric car charged in Yorktown.

The town of Yorktown has allocated a $60,000 grant to install an electric vehicle charging station at the John C. Hart Memorial Library.

The funding will purchase and install four dual-port, level-two chargers for seven parking spaces at the library which is in Shrub Oak.

Supervisor Matt Slater said it was a great opportunity for the town to lead by example.

“Electric vehicle sales are increasing,” he said, “and communities must prepare themselves for the inevitable charger demand.”

Town officials haven’t yet decided where the charges will be located. The parking spaces under consideration are on the end of the library past the children’s department.

The four charging stations are expected to cost $46,000, the town said. The balance of the grant will be used to pay for unexpected expenses related to the installation.

Charging stations at the library are anticipated to be installed by next summer. Users will be expected to pay for the charging by downloading a smartphone app.

The John C. Hart Memorial Library is at 1130 E. Main St. in Shrub Oak.
