Yorktown Man, 24, Steals Two Handguns from Home

Kevin McRae was charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony.

A 24-year-old Yorktown man was due in court on Tuesday to answer felony criminal possession of weapon charges, police said. 

Yorktown police received a report on April 29 that firearms were missing from a Halyan Road home in Yorktown. Based on investigation, police developed Kevin McRae as the suspect, but attempts to reach him were unsuccessful.  

On Monday, May 6, police officers, with the assistance of agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, believed that McRae was inside his home on Halyan Road.

Police said McRae fled his home when he learned the people knew of his whereabouts. That same day, he was located in a vehicle on Underhill Avenue and was arrested at about 3:15 p.m. for possessing two handguns.

Police did not say if the guns were taken from his home or a neighbor's home, but the two handguns were reported stolen on April 28.

McRae was charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony.  

He was brought to police headquarters for processing and remanded to the Westchester County Jail where he was held on $15,000 cash bail. McRae was scheduled to appear in Yorktown Town Court on May 7.
