Yorktown Man Accused Of Choking, Assaulting Victim

Police said the victim walked into police headquarters and reported the domestic incident.

YORKTOWN, NY — A Yorktown man was accused of assaulting and choking someone and damaging the person's property.

The Yorktown Police Department said Shaun Brooks, 35, of Yorktown, was charged Thursday with criminal obstruction of breathing, fourth-degree criminal mischief and third-degree attempted assault, all misdemeanors.

Police said, shortly after 2 a.m. June 17, a report was received about a domestic incident from a victim who walked into the police department lobby.

Following an investigation, police said Brooks put the victim in a chokehold obstructing the victim's breathing, tried to physically assault the person and damaged their property.

Authorities said multiple attempts to locate or contact Brooks were unsuccessful and an arrest warrant was applied for and issued.

Around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, he voluntarily responded to the police department and surrendered himself.

Brooks was arraigned by a judge who issued a temporary order of protection on behalf of the victim.

Bail was set at $3,000, which he posted.

Brooks was released on his own recognizance to return to the Yorktown Justice Court Tuesday.
