Yorktown Native to Showcase 'Dances with Pride' At Annual Performance
The multi award-winning choreographer presents her annual showcase performances this weekend.
Dancing has been a part of Yorktown native Darcy Baia's life since she was 2 years old when she embarked on her lifetime career path by studying ballet. At just 5 years old, her talent caught the attention of local producers. The rest is history.
Today, she is a multi award-winning choreographer who is the founder and creative director of the Putnam Valley-based Darcy's Academy of Dance.
This weekend, Darcy's Academy of Dance will present its annual showcase performances, with productions including ballet, jazz, modern, tap, hip hop, and full-blown theatrical presentations.

Entitled "Dances With Pride," the show features original music, incredible hand-made original costumes, original music, and production values you'd only find on Broadway. A Vegas-based team of light designers, who have been flown in just for this performance, will operate a state-of-the-art lighting rig that includes 40 moving lights, video projections, special effects and more.
The performances are being held at Putnam Valley High School's Performing Arts Center on Friday, June 1 at 6 p.m., and Saturday, June 2, with 3 shows at 9 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The opening number "Dances with Pride" is based on Broadway's "Lion King," and performers include award-winning dancers aged 4 - 18, with 51 kids in the opening number.
