Yorktown Recognizes Newly Tenured Teachers
The school district congratulated its new tenured teachers and held a reception on Monday for friends and family.
Several staff members received tenure this year and were honored by the school board members during Monday’s board of education meeting.
The ceremony took place at the cafeteria in front of an audience of family, friends and colleagues. The Choir gave a brief performance before the tenure candidates were introduced by Dr Ralph Napolitano, superintendent of schools.
"We are very, very excited about the fact we are going to be working with you for a long, long time and that you are going to be working with our students for a long time," Napolitano told the tenure-es. "Congratulations to all."

He said he believes tenure does not mean "their probationary period is over and now they can do whatever they want."
"What giving tenure means as far as I'm concerned [...] you deserve a long lease on your career because you have all of the right elements that raise kids up, that make them better people, that make them feel good about themselves and that make them learn that they can and should be making a difference in the world," Napolitano said.
