Salvatore F. Pepe was assistant vice president for technology at Marsh & McLennan Cos. Inc. According to a profile published in The New York Times, Pepe, who died at 45, kept his family connected by putting "together a photo-filled calendar marking the birthdays and anniversaries of the 60-odd members of his, his wife's and his six siblings' families and hand it out to everyone."
Pepe, who lived in Queens at the time, loved watching the stars. He and his wife "would take the afternoon off work, drive out with the telescope to the Delaware Water Gap and stand beneath the sky, bundled up in hunting suits and warmed by the sparkle of the stars," the Times wrote.
