Charlotte Train Stabbing Suspect Charged With Attempted Murder: Police

A man who was twice-deported in recent years was charged with attempted murder, other crimes in a Charlotte train stabbing, authorities said

CHARLOTTE, FL — A man was arrested in the Friday afternoon stabbing of another person on a Charlotte commuter train, authorities said.

Oscar Solarzano, 33, was charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury, breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, and being intoxicated and disruptive, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police wrote in a post to X.

Police said the victim suffered a stab wound and was hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
Solarzano was being held in jail Saturday without bond.

The victim, a man, was found with a stab wound near North Brevard Street and East 22nd Street just before 5 p.m., ABC News said. The train was stopped between stations.

He was brought to Novant Health Presbyterian with serious injuries, reports said.

The attack comes a few months after a Ukrainian refugee riding one of the city’s trains was killed in an unrelated knife attack.

The suspect, who is from Honduras, is illegally in the U.S. and was previously deported twice, in 2018 and 2021, the Department of Homeland Security said in a news release.

His previous arrests include aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, destroying evidence, resisting arrest, and using a false ID, and convictions for robbery and illegally re-entry, the DHS said.
