Suspect Taken Into Custody At Scene Of Fatal Charlotte Shooting

A person is dead following a shooting Thursday morning in a home in southeast Charlotte. Here's what police are saying.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police say a suspect is in custody following a fatal shooting at a southeast Charlotte home Thursday morning.

Officers from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon at the home in the 6000 block of McGregor Drive shortly after 7:30 a.m.

"When they arrived, they located a victim with an apparent gunshot wound," CMPD said in a statement. "The victim was pronounced deceased on scene."

A suspect was also located at the scene, sitting within feet of a firearm. Officers "were able to de-escalate the situation" before taken the unidentified person into custody.

"Officers are not looking for any additional suspects at this time," CMPD said.

Officers located the victim in a driveway and the suspect in the backyard of the home, WSOC reported.

CMPD said the homicide investigation is active and ongoing, and asked that anyone with information about the incident call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
