Former Fort Bragg Soldier Fighting for In-State N.C. Tuition
Iraq War veteran Hayleigh Perez says her true residence was North Carolina throughout her military tenure, though she was stationed in Texas before her discharge.

Iraq war veteran Hayleigh Perez lived in North Carolina while stationed at Fort Bragg and kept her home here even when she was relocated to Texas for the end of her Army career.
Now, Perez wants herself and other veterans in a similar position to have an easier time being recognized as in-state students when they pursue college degrees after they're discharged.
Perez, along with the Student Veterans Advocacy Group, is suing the University of North Carolina for denying her in-state tuition status at UNC Pemboke, according to The Huffington Post. Fayetteville State actually accepted her as an in-state student, using the same information.

Perez's cause has a lot of backers. An online petition asking the UNC Board of Governors to "Stop Discriminating Against Student Veterans" has nearly 148,000 signatures.
