What Effects of Government Shutdown at Fort Bragg Could Look Like
One week away until a potential partial government shutdown

By Kelly Twedell
The looming threat of another possible government shutdown. We've been here before. At the mercy of those we vote into office, and they cannot agree on expenditures as we inch near to exceeding our debt limit of $16.7 trillion.
Here is the skinny. If the government does 'shutdown' there will be no mid-month October paychecks to service members.Â
Soldiers will still accrue pay, but will not be paid until the funds become available.
Line-of-duty death benefits will be suspended. That will hit Fort Bragg widows and families pretty hard.
Permanent change of station moves and non-essential travel will be put on hold.
Operations at post clinics will most likely be scaled back.Â
Weapons and facilities maintenance would screech to a halt - and those civilian employees contracted out will more than likely be placed on a temporary furlough.
These are just some examples of how our community could be affected.
Where would you most likely feel the pinch? Groceries, living expenses, car payments, tuition payments?
